Kyphoplasty

Used to treat spinal fractures, Kyphoplasty involves injecting a special cement into the vertebrae to restore the height of a damaged vertebra and relieve pain.

Using an X-ray for guidance, a needle is inserted through back muscles and into the bone. A balloon is then inflated, helping a vertebra regain its normal shape.

The cement is then injected to hold the vertebra in place.

This procedure is minimally invasive, and for the most part, takes place in an outpatient setting.
